Whistler Bike Park Update

The Whistler Bike Park is now open and the bike park crew have been hard at it getting more trails open this week.  New trail additions this week include Dirt Merchant, Easy Does It, Angry Pirate (Upper & Lower), and a full buff job on Samurai Pizza Cat bringing the lower Park to 99.9% open. Golden Triangle is the last little slice of Fitz Zone that we are missing but it is not far off.

In the next few weeks the park crew will be going to work on the skills centers adding a new one off Easy Does It and rejigging the other ones to offer better trailside training for riders of all abilities. At the same time they will be starting the initial forays into the Garbanzo Zone to see just how much snow is burying the trails and what it will take to get some open in the latter part of June.

This movie by Coastal Crew is sure to get you excited for this summer.

Meet at 9am, at the access road to the Municipal Yard next to the bus depot (across the hwy from Spruce Grove).

The aim this week is to re-establish a connection from the hwy to Roll Yer Bones. Please bring work gloves, gardening shears, small saws, or any portable cutting tool you may have. Also please bring garbage bags to collect waste and to carry water and snacks.

WORCA are still looking for sponsors for our trail days. Please send an email to  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  if interested.

A Four-year hiatus serves to fuel anticipation for May 22, 2010

Whistler Blackcomb’s Crud 2 Mud is a classic “transition season” event mixing the end of the ski and snowboard season with the start of the bike season.

In teams or individually, Crud 2 Mud competitors ski or snowboard from the top of Whistler Mountain to the bottom of the snow line, where bikes and equipment lay waiting. Ski and snowboard boots ditched, competitors clip into bike pedals and race through the Whistler Mountain Bike Park (on a yet to be determined trail).

Whistler Blackcomb’s 13th annual Showcase Showdown, presented by Burton took over the Nintendo Highest Level Terrain Park last Saturday in the midst of a spring pow day which brought 25 centimetres of fresh snow over night. Jesmond Dubeau and Molly Milligan take first place in the men’s and women’s categories

This year’s event was tagged the Party in the Park, with the BBQ smoking, chili simmering, and good times flowing all day.  “The course was in great shape for a “pow day” in the park,” says Graham Turner, founder of Showcase snowboard shop “The event went off and all I can say is, it was Damn Good.”

The Showdown course set up started with two 70-foot jumps in a row leading into the re-entry feature that included a wallride to rail set up.  The riders were judged on their style, trick difficulty, amplitude and creativity.

In the men’s category Whistler resident Jesmond Dubeau took top spot and $2000 with a best run score of 27.8; Andrew Burns took second and $1000 with a best run score of 25.8 and Jay Wexler took third and $500 for his best score of 24.4.

In the women’s category Whistlerite Molly Milligan took home $750 for first place with a best run score of 26.3; Star Of Peace Quinn took second and $500 for her best run score of 22.2 and Marion Gouwy took home $250 and third place for her best run score of 19.8.

Samsung was on hand to give away a big screen LCD TV to the best trick that went to Sea to Sky local Andrew Geeves (aka “Geevsey”) for sending a massive Front 720 Melon off the second jump.

Special thanks to the event sponsors who made this all happen, including Burton, Forum, Vans, Quicksilver, Ride, Bonfire, DaKine, Thirty Two, Samsung and Sandbox.  Additional partner support came from Red Bull, Jager, Kokanee, Zero Ceiling, GLC, Camp Of Champions & Nintendo.
