WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR 2010 SEA TO SKY BATTLE OF THE BANDS
"What's the sound of a mountain lion versus an eagle?" the lead singer of Fogon asked the audience. "You're about to hear it" was his answer, as the band went into an instrumental crescendo that helped them to take home the title of Winner of the 2010 Sea to Sky Battle of the Bands, and the Audience Choice Award, on Friday, April 30.
"I've been to lots of these kinds of competitions," said legendary mixer and event judge Mike Fraser, "but this level of talent was a nice surprise."
Eric J Robbins received the Runner Up Award for his "hick folk" (and wildly entertaining) songs about life in Pemberton, entitling him to a live interview and air play on Mountain FM with Rob Michaels as well as a $200 gift certificate for music equipment rental at Long and McQuade...
FIFTH ANNUAL SEA TO SKY BATTLE OF THE BANDS PLAYS THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 30
Come out to support the Sea to Sky Corridor's emerging musicians. This year's talent will showcase their best toe-tapping originals on Friday, April 30 at the Garibaldi Lift Co. (GLC) in Whistler at 8:00 p.m. It's all about the music, so this event is alcohol-free. Tickets are just $5 at Whistler's Foto Source.
Musicians from Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton will be represented in the 2010 Sea to Sky Battle of the Bands. Expect to hear Rapido's acoustic folk (Pemberton), Fogon's rock/grunge/tribal (Squamish), Eric J Robbins' "hick folk" (Pemberton), Laurelle Robichaud's folk/indie (Whistler), and Jeff Fry's acoustic rock (Squamish)...

10:00 - 11:00 - Mascot Mayhem, Big Air Bear’s Birthday at Village Square
Big Air Bear, the Festival’s official mascot, rounds up his favourite fluffy fellows including Pemberton Potato Jack, Gizmo, and RCMP Safety Bear, to celebrate his 7th birthday in front of a legion of pint-sized fans.
Fun for big(headed) doods and little doods, Mascot Mayhem convenes all of Big Air Bear’s favourite fluffy fellows, from Pemberton Potato Jack to Bart the Bear from Whistler Kids defending his crown as Mascot Champion of the Universe.
They’ll be dishing out birthday cake and playing party games, with a limbo contest and dance-off to hail the 2010 Mascot Champion.
Story Idea: We did invite Quatchi and his Olympic doods to participate, but he’s been sent into ‘inglourious’ retirement. http://www.wssf.com/blog/furballs-will-be-mothballed

Breakestra: When break, as in “breakbeat,” the looping percussive heart of hiphop, meets a funked up 10 piece orchestra to give you Los Angeles’ Breakestra, you are tapping right into the vena cava of hiphop – the “only music keeping funk alive”, according to founder, bassman, DJ, Miles Tackett. Breakestra’s latest pot of original funk gumbo, the newly released From Dusk Til Dawn, is a soulful tour de force, from a crew who has sung alongside Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, Black Eyed Peas, DJ Shadow, BB King and Macy Gray...
