It's a beautiful day in Whistler today, Check out the ArtWalk opening reception tonight which starts at 6pm, then the afterparty at the FireRock Lounge. ArtWalk features over 50 local artists.

On June 24th at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre(SLCC) in Whistler, master carver Xwalacktun (Rick Harry) will commence the carving of a Salish Welcome Figure to be placed in near Peak 2 Peak Gondola Station as a continuation of Cultural Journey Sea to Sky up Whistler Mountain. The carving is a joint effort by the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation and the SLCC to increase the profile of Aboriginal Tourism in the region.

Guests, community members and staff are welcome to visit the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre in Whistler’s Upper Village to meet the carver, assist him in his carving and take some of shavings as mementos from their experience. The welcome figure is expected to be placed in the Whistler Alpine in August, 2010.

September 4th & 5th, 2010 will mark the first annual LIVE at Squamish festival - a two-day music and arts festival nestled in the heart of the Sea to Sky corridor. Surrounded by forests and mountains in the clean fresh air, we will program multiple stages of the best electronic, indie, blues and rock music.

We would like to invite artists and craftsmen working in a range of contemporary art forms to become involved with LIVE at Squamish. Involvement can take shape in two ways: Artisan & First Nations Village and Art Installations/Live Art Demonstrations.

Artisan & First Nations Village: This is the place where art will live. Bring your proudest pieces whatever size or shape they may be to display, share with and sell to festival-goers.

Art Installations/Live Art Demonstrations: Educate our festival folk and let them be a part of your creative process while your art comes to life through on-site Art Installations and Live Art Demonstrations.
